The Sussex team needed a win after a recent run of poor results and what a win the youngsters gave. With a great start to the match Harry Annals after losing the leg with the darts and opponent George Jones hitting a 180, Harry fought back winning the next two legs and finishing with a 20.38.  Elle Church played the next game and although a valiant effort was made on her debut in the under 18's, she was overpowered by Darren Horwell.

After a short absence Mark Fluck returned to the team and after an amazing 140 to leave himself an outshot, Mark took the game 2-0 with a 17.89 also taking the Performance of the Match award.  Joe Davis then made it 3-1 with a great 23.30 and hitting 180 on the way, another superb performance from Joe and winning the Man of the Match.  Warren Grantham took the next game 2-0 with 16.16 but managed to get stuck on a double which reduced his average.

Next up was new boy Josh Langridge who came against Devon's highest average player in Jacob Couch.  A good couple of legs from Josh and unfortunate to draw an inform Mr Couch.  At 4-2 in the under 18's with three games left, Connor Knuckles Levett was called and with an 18.56 managed to take the game away from Devon with another 2-0 win to his name.

Phil Miles played the 8th set and although Phil scored well he was beaten 2-1 by Jordan Copeland.  With the match at 5-3 Dave Hurd played the last game, winning 2-0 with a 119 outshot to win the Under 18's 6-3.

The Ladies continued Sussex's form with Taryn Beaumont taking the first set 2-1 with a 15.47 and also winning Lady of the Match.  Sarah Boniface had the unfortunate task of facing an in form Sarah Windsor and struggled against the heavy scoring of Miss Windsor who won the set with an amazing 27.08.  Last up for the ladies was Emily White who fought extremely bravely and after a struggle with the double in the first leg won 2-0 and ensured the win for the Ladies.

The Under 21's only needed to win one set to ensure a win for Sussex, Jorden Langridge had the task of going on first and did not disappoint, winning 3-1 with a 20.22 average and ensuring Sussex won the day. Ant Caswell played the friendly face of Jason Hill and after an epic battle of both darts & wits won 3-2 with an 18.08.  Next up was Adam Griffiths and after another very good battle lost out by a leg losing 3-2 with an 18.79.  Man of the Match (again) Adam Hart took the next set 3-1 with an impressive 21.08. Having the task of playing the last game of the day Ollie Sopp made the final score 12-5 to Sussex with a 3-2 win over Jack Goyle, Ollie with a 19.27.

After all the problems of ensuring Sussex had a full squad the day turned out to be very enjoyable, Devon as always hosted a good venue and our thanks go to all involved from the bar staff, the management and all the players.

With Peter Sopp unable to attend a big Thank You goes to Teresa Weir, Jane Sopp & Captain Greg Upton for ensuring the match went ahead.

Next game is on 5th June, away to Berkshire.  This is the last game of the season so lets hope our good form stays with us and we finish with a win.

WELL DONE SUSSEX YOU SHOULD ALL BE PROUD OF YOURSELVES!

CONGRATULATIONS this month go to 13-year-old Essex Youth Open winner Joe Davis from Brighton for a brilliant victory at Colchester.

A strong field of 72 entries included two England internationals, but it was the relatively inexperienced youngsters who reached the semi-finals. Joe won 3-0 against Tony Field to reach the final where he met 16-year-old Essex player Rhys Hayden.

Rhys went 2-0 up but Joe came back with two 18-dart legs to level. and then clinch the match to win 3-2.
