Duck attacked with dart survives
A duck hit in the head
by a dart is the eighth bird to have been
attacked in East Sussex in the last three
weeks.
The East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and
Ambulance Service (Wras) said the dart was
able to be removed and the duck was fit to
be taken back to Hampden Park.
A £1,000 reward has been offered for
information leading to the conviction of
those responsible for the attack and recent
gull shootings. Do you recognise
the dart? This sort of behaviour
is definitely bringing disrepute to our dart
players - the culprit must be found!! |

Sussex Youth Blown Away By Dorset
by Barry Moody
The
Dorset Youth squad braved a snow blizzard to reach the Roffey Club,
Horsham on Sunday 6th April where they proceeded to blow away the title
hopes of the Sussex
team. Winning all three games Dorset took the bonus points by an 11-6
margin, reversing the result earlier in the season at Dorchester and
leaving Sussex with the prospect of having to beat
Division leaders Hampshire at
Portsmouth
in the final fixture to gain top place.
The Under Eighteens went 5-2 down but fought back to finish up losing
5-4. Winners were Tom Sawyer and David Weir (both Eastbourne), Sam
Barnard (Lewes) and man-of-the-match Warren Grantham (Crawley)
(pictured) with a 21.78 average. Tom Sawyer was awarded the
'Best performance of the day' award.
The Under-21 Girls were missing previous match winner Michaela
Dodd and slumped to a 2-1 defeat. Littlehampton’s Lorraine Horne won her
second consecutive
lady-of-the-match award.
With the match score at 7-5 Sussex needed a strong performance from the
Under-21s but missed doubles cost the home side dearly and they went
down 4-1 with their only winner Gavin Studholme (Ticehurst) keeping his
unbeaten record with a 3-0 win and a 19.27 average.

| MARCH
Sussex Youth took the bonus points in hard fought match against
Surrey at the Epsom Legion Club on Sunday 16th March. Their
13-7 win puts them just five points behind leaders Hampshire, who they
meet in the final fixture at Portsmouth in May.
The
under eighteens got off to a shaky start,
going 3-0 down but fought back well, with
wins for Warren Grantham
(Crawley) (pictured), Sam
Barnard (Lewes), man-of-the-match David Weir
(Eastbourne) with a
23.09 average, Oliver
Sopp (Brighton)
and match winner Horsham’s Mark Fluck, his
first success this season. Sam Barnard was
awarded the “Best performance of the day”
award.
The under-21
girls are joint top of their league table
with Hampshire after gaining their third win
of the season. Littlehampton’s Lorraine
Horne made a welcome comeback to the squad
and took the lady-of-the-match award with a
15.94 average. Michaela Dodd (Brighton) won
her game with a 120 checkout to give Sussex the 2-1 win.
With
the match score at 7-5 to Sussex the
under-21s needed two wins to take the bonus
points. Gavin Studholme (Ticehurst) kept his
unbeaten record with a 3-0 win and, in a
clash of the Captains, Brighton’s Michael
Hammond clinched the match result, beating
Surrey
star Anthony Hopkins 3-1, with a match award
winning average of 25.84. Doug Mason
(Horsham) put the icing on the cake when he
grabbed his first win of the season to put
the under-21s joint top of their league
table with Hampshire and make the final
score 10-7 to
Sussex.
Further good
performances from their remaining two
fixtures will give Sussex a great chance of
claiming the league title.

The third of
this season’s “HOLSTEN” Grand Prix
playoffs saw Sussex players dominate the
day’s play. Billinghurst’s P.D.C. star
Tony Ayres moved to the top of the points
table winning both the Mens’ Singles and
Pairs events. There was also a double for
Sussex team manage Rhonda West making her
first appearance at Roffey this season to
win the Ladies Singles and Pairs.
Tony collected
the £200 first prize when he defeated Kent
player Andy Derrick 3-1 in the Singles
final. Then, partnered by Crawley’s Danny
King, the Sussex duo beat George Mckie,
Middlesex and Steve Mead, Surrey by 3-1 in
the Pairs final.
Rhonda defeated
County team mate Sue Bird 3-2 in the Singles
final then paired up with her to take the
Doubles beating Surrey’s Jane Lewis and
Angela Frewin 3-0 in the final.
The Flying
Pairs provide more success for Sussex
players with Eastbourne’s Paul Russell
partnering Crawley’s Steve Mecrow to a win
over Steve Mead and Alan Wyatt in the final.
A second win in
the Youth Singles puts Rob Cross, Edenbridge
top of the table with eighty points.,
Crawley’s Warren Grantham was the defeated
finalist.
Despite the
clash with events at Great Yarmouth and
Torremolinos organisers Sussex Super League
paid out £750 prize money on the day and
anticipate a better turnout for the third in
the series on Sunday May 11th

Hi everyone - here is
inspiration for all those up and coming players:
Double Tot – Nathan 3 is Darts Ace.
Nathan
Bradley started playing darts from the age of 2 after watching his Dad
play in the kitchen. To his amazement Nathan’s Dad James came in one day
and caught him pulling a chair to the dart board and pulling the darts
out of the board after throwing them.
