Peter secured the biggest win of his career when he defeated John Part to win the 2003 Las Vegas Desert Classic, and he remains among the leading competitors in the sport.

A rapid rise up the rankings saw Peter hold the world number one spot within three years of turning professional, including appearances in both the World Championship and World Matchplay finals.

He suffered defeat in a third major final when he lost 7-0 to Phil Taylor in the 2002 World Championship final, but he continued in confident mood on the circuit, dominating the inaugural UK Open Regional Finals with three wins.

A semi-final appearance in the 2003 World Grand Prix was the highlight of a disappointing run in major events for Manley, although runs to the last four of the 2005 Budweiser UK Open and World Matchplay came hot on the heels of a good run in the inaugural 888.com Premier League.

Peter - nicknamed 'One Dart' for his clinical finishing - saw his popularity rise during the tournament with the use of the hit single 'Is This The Way To Amarillo' for his walk-on music, and he qualified for the play-offs before a loss to Colin Lloyd in the semis.

He ended 2005 by reaching the final of the World Championship, but Taylor once again dashed his hopes at the Circus Tavern to inflict a third defeat in the Purfleet showpiece.
