SUSSEX   COUNTY GAMES WRITE UPS 2011-2012 SEASON

DARTS  SUSSEX V GLOUCESTERSHIRE MARCH 2012

Sussex were held to an 18-18 draw by relegation threatened Gloucestershire at the Roffey Club in the Rileys Inter County League, which could mean the end of their promotion prospects this season. Sussex meet Norfolk at the end of the month in Norwich and face a team, currently top of the League and odds on favourites to go up. Second placed Wiltshire have a sixteen point lead over Sussex and the Moonrakers two remaining fixtures are against teams in the relegation area.

There were ten changes to the previous squad, which was successful in Bristol last month, with Helen Jones, Elaine Chapman and Karen Wilson returning to the “B” team and Sam Harding regaining her place in the Ladies “A” side. Paul Russell, Ken Sowerby, Terry Howse and Dan Grimmet were all back for the Mens “B” team. Mick Bridle replaced Gary Edgar in the Mens “A” and Dan Grimmet was rewarded for his award winning performance on Saturday, taking Reg Harding Jnr’s place next day.

Sussex last played Gloucestershire in February 1996 where they won 19-17, a result that was a major part in the home side’s relegation to Division Four at the end of that season.

The Ladies “B” team started well, with Julia Saldanha, Worthing and Jill Campbell Miles, Hastings both winning 3-1, Jill’s 20.69 average gaining her the match award.

Helen Jones, Lewes and Teresa Weir, Eastbourne were 3-0 winners, to give Sussex a 4-2 win, their third in an unbeaten run this season.

The Men’s “B” match proved to be a disaster, with the visitors outscoring Sussex by 81 tons to 67 and winning 8-4.

Winners for Sussex were Darren Woolgar, Newhaven, Neil Smith, Mid Sussex , Ken Sowerby, Worthing and man-of-the-match Dan Grimmett, Mid Sussex with a 23.20 average. This was a big disappointment for the Mens “B” who had previously lost only once in six matches.

On Sunday morning Sussex Ladies “A” team raced to a 3-1 lead thanks to wins for Karen Winter, Littlehampton, Norma Self, Eastbourne and lady-of –the match, on her return to the “A”s, Sam Harding, Lewes with an 18.71 winning average.

Gloucestershire took the last two games leaving Sussex with the draw despite outscoring the visitors by 29 tons to 18. However team manager Rhonda West expressed her pride in her Ladies squad, with both teams unbeaten after seven matches this season.

The Mens “A” match proved to be a seesaw affair with Sussex levelling the overall  score to fifteen all at the halfway stage.

Winners for Sussex were Craig Deeley, Mid Susssex, Paul Eves, Newhaven, Dan Grimmett, Mid Sussex and man-of-the-match Gary Blackwood, Littlehampton winning 3-0 in 30.67. Rod Hawkins, Lewes came back to winning form, followed by wins for Dan Waller, Brighton and Tony Peters, Roffey, whose 3-1 result gave the Mens “A” a 7-5 win, their third of the season.

Sadly Sussex lost the last two games to make the final match score 18-18 which, with one bonus point, lifts Sussex to third place in the table .

Over the weekend Sussex hit 178 tons to the visitor’s 184 with seven maximums to Gloucestershire’s five.

DARTS  2011/12

Worthing retained the Sussex Mens Winter Super League Championship in a playoff, which featured 108 tons and 5 maximums, at the Roffey Social Club, defeating the East Division winners Brighton Nomads by 5-4.

The Globe team had previously won the West  Division by fourteen points from Littlehampton “A” and they now hope to go one better in July, when they again represent Sussex in the British Champions Cup, after losing to Kent at Tonbridge last season.

Nomads came back from an horrific start to this season, losing their first two matches but then remained undefeated and won their Division by fourteen points from Hastings.

Paul Paice started the ball rolling for the Worthing side, coming back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against Jon Palmer. Dayle Smith continued the Globe team’s winning start, beating  County “A” team player Mick Bridle 3-1. Richard Dixon was next up for Worthing and his 3-2 win over Tommy Barton included the best finish of the night, checking out on eighty in the deciding leg.

Worthing’s James Greenfield showed why he is top of the League’s averages this season in a match award winning performance to defeat Paul Robinson 3-1 with a 28.20 average, which included nine tons and a fourteen dart leg.

The fifth game was critical for Brighton Nomads at 4-0 down and their man Mark Davis showed his County class beating Richard Stanford 3-0 with a 27.83 average.

Nomad’s team captain Adam Hart faced the experienced Lee Gladman next and found himself 2-0 down after missing doubles. However, the Sussex youth team player fought back to take the third leg and again had chances to level the game but missed his double. It was the Globe player who clinched the match, Lee finishing on double four after nineteen darts to win 3-1 and secure the Championship.

The final three games were all played and were won by Nomads,

Joe Davis beat Andy Stanford 3-2, Ian Perkins won 3-0 against Mick Doabe with a 26.37 average including a thirteen dart leg and Andy Relf had a 27.83 average in his 3-0 defeat of Joseph Langridge.

The final 5-4 result reflects the closeness of the two teams performances with Worthing hitting 54 tons and two maximums and Nomads scoring 54 tons and 3 maximums.

A Shropshire businessman has landed a top job in the world of professional darts – after striking up a conversation with a former player on Twitter

.Baschurch’s Jonathan Martin prepares for his new job at The Admiral Duncan Picture: Alex TaylorJonathan Martin, from Baschurch, has been named as the first ever marketing manager for the Professional Darts Players Association – an organisation that represents top stars like Phil Taylor, Adrian Lewis and Raymond van Barneveld.

Martin runs MM Sports Consultants, a business that has up to now largely focussed on working with non-League football clubs such as Ellesmere Rangers, Rushall Olympic and AFC Liverpool.

But he has been appointed to his new role after establishing a relationship with ex-World No 1 Peter Manley, the chairman of the PDPA.

“I started talking with Peter on Twitter,” Martin revealed.

“I was sitting next to my wife Lorraine, who was watching Strictly Come Dancing, and I wrote a Tweet saying it be great to have a darts player on that show.

“Peter Manley replied saying he’d do it, and we got talking from there.

“I met up with him before Christmas and we actually signed the contracts on New Year’s Eve.”

Martin sees his new role as having three strands – raising the profile of darts nationally and further afield, to improve sponsorship revenues for players and for the association, and to create a panel of advisers to give top players sound professional advice.

“It’s classed as a part-time role because I am carrying on with my other jobs but it is quite a wide mandate,” he added.

“My involvement in darts has really grown over the last few months and this is a terrific opportunity.”

Martin’s appointment has also been welcomed enthusiastically by Manley, who was a three-time world championship finalist at the height of his playing career.

Manley said: “I am delighted Jonathan has agreed to become the first marketing manager of the PDPA at this exciting time for the sport and its players.

“I am looking forward to working with Jonathan and I know his vast sporting commercial experience will greatly assist both the association and our player members.”

WOMEN AND DARTS!!

My name is Julie Lambie,I play for Lincolnshire County Darts Organisation and I'm also the Secretary of Lincolnshire Darts

I want to let you know about a petition that is taking the Darts World by Storm.

Luci Cunningham  (Sussex County Darts Player) approached me to help set up a petition to get LADIES WORLD PROFESSIONAL DARTS back on TV

So I Created a petition on line with Petition Buzz to highlight the issue and posted its first airing on the Ladies Darts Group I have created on Facebook.

Many friends looked through the schedules on the BBC and ESPN and on the BDO Programmes, NO IT WAS NOT HAPPENING. and To make it worse, The ladies didn't even get a mention in the weekends Highlights shown LATE on BBC.

We thought we might get a few hundred, but what ceased to amaze us all is that by 48hours, we have reached 1000 Signatures, and as of now 89 hours into the petition we have 2,181 !! with all the help of many friends in help to promote this all over.

There are ladies and gentlemen from all over the world who have signed, this REALLY HAS GONE GLOBAL.
Here's a list of the Countries it has reached

The 8 women that qualified for the Lakeside, have earned their right to have the same rights as the Men who are there. The too have travelled all over England and other continents to gain the points to qualify. Pay money to enter and travel, hold down jobs, have a family just like the men.

But they don't get any LIVE coverage. In this day and age, this is very sexist, and women have equal rights,

We are not looking to cause trouble with the BDO,  but we want to show the TV stations, that this is SEXIST, UNFAIR, DISCRIMINATING, AND TOTALLY WRONG.   It is about time the Ladies FINAL at least was shown live, as they deserve to be on air too.

We need more Media coverage, apart from Facebook, Twitter, Emailing, Local Radio Stations and Newspapers. Deta Hedman is being interview for the Sunday Telegraph, the Day before the Next BICC Matches in Jan.

Please put this letter and link on your Website to encourage more people to sign.  We need more Media coverage, apart from Facebook, Twitter, Emailing, Local Radio Stations and Newspapers.
